Cindy and Nancy were one of the many police women participating in the adidas Ladiesrun, last Sunday. In this Pink Ribbon-supporting event, Women of all ages were running for 3, 6.5 or 10 kilometers. Nancy and Cindy were doing the 10 km version and were - after crossing two bridges - still fit enough to crack a police joke. Crooks beware!

Even during a comparatively smooth performance, Amy Winehouse managed to stir up some controversy, even during a relatively smooth set, Saturday night at the Glastonbury Festival in England. (source mtv.uk)

Performing her signature hit “Rehab” while walking along the front row of the audience, Winehouse appeared to punch an unseen fan, judging by a video posted on the BBC News Web site. As she continues singing, Winehouse can be heard grunting as she thrusts a fist into the crowd, then quickly scampers backwards on her high heels under the watch of several large security guards. On continuing her forward progress, she appeared to glare at the person in the spot where the incident took place.

The 24-year-old singer climbed down to the pit in front of the stage to meet fans during set closer ‘Rehab’, and scuffled with an unseen reveller, reports the Sun.

The crowd had lapped up hits, including ‘Back To Black,’ although there were jeers when Winehouse dedicated ‘Wake Up Alone’ to husband Blake Fielder-Civil, in jail awaiting sentencing for GBH and perverting the course of justice. Read more…

Excerpt: “Stuczynski was only days away from leaving for the United States Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Ore., where she hopes to continue a remarkable ascent in this event. It was only four years ago that her coach watched her in a basketball game and persuaded her to pick up a pole for the first time.

Now, at 26, Stuczynski holds the American record, clearing 16 feet ¾ inches at the Adidas Track Classic in May. Only one woman in the world has vaulted higher: Yelena Isinbayeva of Russia, at 16-5 1/4. The qualifying round at the United States trials is Wednesday, with the finals next Sunday afternoon.

“Going into this thing she had so much stacked against her,” Stuczynski’s coach, Rick Suhr, said. “She’s not a gymnast. She has no gymnastics background. She has an unproven coach. She doesn’t come from a pole-vault area.”

Jodi Fonfa is 42-years-old with three children, but she’s in better physical shape than most high-school cheerleaders. She has worked as Sharon Stone’s personal trainer; held the title of Miss National Fitness Champion; and most recently, reports daily to her office at 24 Hour Fitness, where she’s a master instructor.

Though Fonfa looks like she should be on the cover of Muscle & Fitness magazine, she’s not the type of mother who wakes her children up to the sound of a trumpet, requesting that they give her 20.

“It’s about keeping a healthy attitude,” she said. “I just want them to have fun and enjoy life without taking it so seriously.”

No trip to London is complete without a visit to The London Wrestling Studio. We are not sure how the exchange rate is working out for we Americans, but please let us know if anyone has visited there.

“London Wrestling Studio is located near Paddington, central London - just a couple of minutes from Edgware Road underground station, in Zone 1. Paddington is very convenient for those coming from Heathrow airport, as the Heathrow Express terminates here. We do not give out our exact street address to customers who have not visited us before - they are met at the nearby station. (For the security of any women who may be staying in the studio). Our standard rate per hour for studio rental is GBP £20. But this can be waived if experienced session wrestlers would like to offer wrestling training to our girls in exchange.”

Sit on bench. Grasp dumbbell between feet. Place back of upper arm to inner thigh. Lean into leg to raise elbow slightly.
Raise dumbbell to front of shoulder. Lower dumbbell until arm is fully extended. Repeat. Continue with opposite arm.

The long head (lateral head) of the biceps brachii is activated significantly more than the short head (medial head) of the biceps brachii since the short head enters into active insufficiency as it contiues to contract. (via exrx.net)

Jade Johnson records personal best and Olympic qualifying distance at European Cup

If there was a single athlete whose return to form summed up the much-welcomed upturn in Britain’s fortunes at the European Cup in Annecy, it was Jade Johnson, the long jumper now revelling in her nickname of “the comeback kid”.

After almost two years in the athletics wilderness, Johnson leapt back into contention with a personal best and Olympic qualifying distance of 6.81metres. It was only good enough for second in the competition but worth so much more for her Olympic prospects.

After a series of injuries, Johnson, a European and Commonwealth silver medallist in 2002, was dumped from the sport’s Lottery-funded world class performance programme at the end of last year.
