"This place is just fantastic; it's like a resort." So says Autumn Raby, a British Columbia bodybuilding champion who, with her husband, Greg, visits his parents near Lindsay each summer.
Ms Raby, an avid bodybuilder for eight years, began serious competition in 2003, and this year won the National overall title in women's bodybuilding.
Her in-laws, Al and Hazel Raby, have been coming to Jake Gignac's Cedar Valley Park near Lindsay for many years, and it was there This Week caught up with her for a poolside chat about the sport.
"It's all about being healthy and it takes paying attention (to detail)," she said. "You don't need to do hours and hours of work in the gym, but you do have to have a plan. I like what it does for me, how I feel."
The 33-year-old said she placed well in competition as soon as she began to compete. In 2003, she was first in her division and overall champ at the B.C. Provincials. Competing in the middleweight class, she came fourth at her first national meet, and rose steadily since then to finally take the title this year, beating out a heavyweight-division opponent who was 30 pounds heavier.
Her husband says Ms Raby's success comes from paying attention to detail.
"We keep a log; she keeps track of every bit of food and liquid that goes into her body (when preparing for competition)," he said. "Judges are looking for conditioning, symmetry; the whole image, right down to hair, nails and makeup. But it is a sport that anyone can do."
Ms Raby said that's what she likes best about bodybuilding.
"You can't compete until you're 18, but there's a tremendous number of people in their 40s, 50s and more who are getting into it," she said. "It's a sport you can start any time and have a shot at the national championships. You are competing against yourself; you learn your own limits."
Ms Raby said she was thrilled to come to Cedar Valley Park for a few days of R&R.
"There's a lot of stress when you're competing and now, this is a real chance to relax. It's fabulous here."
Mr. Gignac, who has owned the trailer park for 36 years, was impressed with his guest.
Looking at his own physique he laughed and said, "Maybe I could be in that kind of shape next year."

Here's the scenario:
A lonely, small-town spinster librarian works late one evening. When leaving for the night, a young thug jumps out of the shadows of the dark parking lot and snatches the librarian's purse. But, she runs him down, tackles him, and beats him unconscious. She then stuffs him into her trunk and drives home to her secluded farmhouse. There, in the cellar, she shackles the coarse man with leg and arm irons to a damp brick wall. "I've waited for this opportunity all my life", she tells him. She strips off her old maid's attire to reveal a hard, muscular physique. In the cellar are her weights, a mattress, and various implements of torture. She manipulates him into unbareably agonizing positions, breaking each of his fingers and poking out his eyes so he can't escape. She shaves his head and body of all hair with a straight razor, and has her way with him in every imaginable way. Her pent-up sexuality consumes her and she keeps him alive with dog food and water in order to serve out her nightly passions. Her franetic brutality ultimately kills him. She drops him into a grave she's dug out on the weedy back 40. But she keeps a souvenir: his head, which she places in a large jar on a cupboard shelf--next to 10 others!
The perfect woman to play the lead role would be Autumn Raby, whose photos here immediately suggested this plot to me.
Anyway, to continue, a couple of the thug's gang members come snooping around the librarian's farm. Crunch!!
But she not only get the two snoopers, but slowly begins picking away at all the male thugs in town. They'd begin disappearing one by one from dark alleys in the night, and her cellar wall would be full of blind, broken-fingered ruffians. The local sheriff is stumped. At last, a smart, tough woman cop from the city (played by, well, I've already mentally cast Mistress Treasure in this role, but she hasn't said whether she'd like to do it) would show up, solve the mystery, physically overpower the librarian, and haul her to justice.
I want points if this gets made!
