10 Year Old Female Competes in Bodybuilding Contest

Maughan Wellham, of Thornton, NSW, is 10 and competed last weekend in the Ms Fitness Australia category of the International Natural Bodybuilding Association’s All Female Classic competition, held in Melbourne. She was the only child in the event, so they had to invent a new category for her, “Ms Fitness Kidz”. (Note the wacky zpelling.)
She’s nowhere near as creepy as the terrifying and notorious child bodybuilder Richard Sandrak, but child bodybuilders are always creepy because they superimpose an ‘adult’ conception of the body - deliberately honed, trained, hardened - onto a child’s body that we prefer to think of as innocent, unformed and in flux.

I would wonder what motivates this young lady. If she decided on her own for this sport and enjoys it, that is one thing, but if she is being “pushed”, and not enjoying herself, I would call that abuse.
So, Lori, is there a way to find out a little more about Maughan, and how she came to take up bodybuilding? For the younger set that may be thinking about it, perhaps her story may be informative.
this kid hasgot sooo much plublicity-its wrong they have turned it into a witch hunt-causing the parent to consider her changing school. leave the KID alone if this is what she wants go for it–anyhow she needed a contest to qualify in fitness.
