Case #6 "I would like to gain muscle."

Dear Dr. Dave,

I would like to gain muscle mass through weight training, could you tell me what is the best supplement on the market to go along with my training to help me reach my goal.

Thanks,
Jay

Dear Jay,

What is your goal? What is your ht and wt? Your age? Take any medications? Any health problems?

Dr. Ores / femalemuscle

Dear Dr. Dave,

ht= 6'1
wt= 204
age= 40
medication= No
Health problems = No
Goal = to locate supplement that with lifting weights will result in mass gain

(I am a male)

Thanks,
Jay

Dear Jay,

Be sure to check a few medical things first. For example, what is your testosterone level? Thyroid function levels? Fasting glucose and lipids?

If all these things check out, you can gain weight by eating more of a varied diet. Blended shakes with calories can help too. But, 204 pounds is not light for your height. What is the desire for mass gain? To look differently? To compete? What gives?

Yours,
Dr. Ores

Case #7 "The Case of Nothing Helps"

Dear Dr. Dave,

Good Morning,
I am starting to work out and have a few questions. I am 5'6" and weigh approximately 160 pounds. I dieted with the Dr. Atkins and lost about 8-10 pounds but lost interest quick and gained most of it back. My weight is in my stomach and thighs. I had two children as well as two miscarriages. I feel I have what I call a pouch - just a lot of dead skin that droops and doesn't seem to tighten no matter what type of exercise I do. I started Tao Bo and running. I had lost about 5 pounds before I started running - but now have gained backed about 4. I am eating good and exercising every day - my fiancée said it is probably muscle from the running but I am losing interest since I am seeing a weight gain. I though about having a tummy tuck to get rid of the excess skin. Will I always see a weight gain while exercising? I am starting to give up. Any advise or suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated.

Anxiously awaiting your reply,

Sincerely,
Jill

Dear Jill,

How often do you run? or do cardio? 45 minutes everyday?

Do you eat any source of animal fat? Like cheese? Red meat? Pork? Bacon? Milk?

Dr. ores

Dear Dr. Dave
I am running about 30 minutes a day. I rarely eat cheese or eggs or red meat - I do eat a lot of carbs. I am 37 years old. I eat bread (every day) , pasta (maybe 2-3 times per week) , cereal (3-4 times per week) I do not drink soda or any other kind of caffeine - I drink about 60-80 ounces of water a day.

Jill

Dear Dr. Dave,
Thank you for all your feedback. I am still curious as to the weight gain from working out - true or false?

Jill

Dear Jill,
That is why I am asking a lot of details about what you eat. In order to not lose weight while running 30 minutes everyday..... you have to ingest more calories than you burn. All the fat in your body comes from fat that you eat. You must be eating some sort of fat or a product with animal fat in it. For example, there are no fat molecules in water. None in lettuce. None in an apple. There is no fat in table sugar. Where's the fat?

How fit are you? Are you a professional body builder?

Are you eating some other source of animal fat? chicken?

You don't get weight gain "from working out". If you eat animal fat and don't move enough to burn off those fat calories...weight gain occurs.

Also, how long have you weighed 160? Did you gain 25 pounds in two months? Or did you weigh 160 for 5 years or more? Your weight will fluctuate 5 - 10 lbs over the year. Weight fluctuation of 5 - 10 lbs is normal. Gaining 25 lbs... 40 lbs... 60 lbs... that's actual real weight gain.

What about the thyroid tests? Ever have them done? Hormone blood levels?

Yours,
Dr. Ores

Case #8 "Bad Ephedra"

How long does Ephedrine/Ephedra stay in the body after you stop taking it?

Brooke

Probably days. Why do you take it? It is a dangerous drug. Not good.
