All the rumourings and murmurings are true - the IFBB is set to bring out a bikini division in 2009 with pro cards awarded in 2010.

This will pull the total number of divisions for females in the IFBB up to four: bodybuilding, fitness, figure and bikini.

Welcomed in some circles, and decried in others - it is definitely a much talked about issue at this time. Is a bikini division a marketing stroke of genius? Or is awarding pro cards to bikini models an insult to female bodybuilders and others who have spent years building and fine tuning their physiques?

With many other federations such as Fitness America and FAME having good success with their bikini divisions, perhaps that spurred the IFBB to follow suit under the old adage “if you can’t beat them join them”.

With men still only having one class [well two if you really stretches and count the under 202lb class as another class] no word yet on whether the American/pro side will follow the lead that some federations around the world have.

However, to me when one is over 60 years old and still competing in national level in bodybuilding, I think it’s pretty hard to say that she did not win in her own way. Moorea’s shemuscle page shows off her physique to the fullest. From Scottsdale, AZ Moorea was involved in competitive gymnastics for about 11 years and retired from that due to a back injury, and moved into fitness and figure competitions. With a 36″ chest, 24″ waist and 35″ hips, Moorea competes at around 129lbs.

There was a new award that will be presented yearly called the
Steve Stone Heart of a Champion that was presented by Jim Manion and Andrea to bodybuilder Peter Putnam, who turned pro winning the light-heavy class.

Gladys said she saw Rachel McLish on television winning the Ms. Olympia title and was inspired to start her own bodybuilding and weight training regimen. Her best placings were 7th in the 1984 IFBB Ms. Olympia, and 8th the following year at the Olympia.

Exercise Instructions:

Setup for the one arm dumbbell row by grabbing a flat bench and sitting a dumbbell on the right hand side at one end. Position yourself on the right side of the bench with your right knee and left hand resting on the bench. Using a neutral grip, pick up the dumbbell with your right hand. Pull your shoulder blade back while keeping your arm straight. This is the starting position for the exercise. Slowly pull the dumbbell up as far as possible. Pause and squeeze your shoulder blades together, then slowly lower the dumbbell back to the starting position. Repeat for desired reps.

Tips & Advice:

Keep your head up and eyes facing forwards, this will keep your back straight. Your shoulder blades shoulder be pulled back throughout the set. Do not let the working shoulder drop down at the bottom of the movement. Keep your entire torso fixed. Pull the weight straight up while keeping your elbow tucked in.
