Schwarzenegger Arnold and Rob Wilkins

I take great pleasure starting off the new millennium with some valuable workout advice from Rob Wilkins, assistant to IFBB President Ben Weider and one of the leading Internet writers in the bodybuilding community.

"Lori, starting the new millennium with a commitment to exercise is a commendable goal—however, a goal many will abandon after the initial excitement wears off; usually within 60 days. We all realize the number of positive benefits of exercise such as improvements to overall health and well being. Researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommend that we should strive for a daily regimen of 30 minutes or more of moderate physical activities most days of the week. However, it seems the only exercise most people are getting is running--running out of cash. Over 60 percent of U.S. adults do not engage in the recommended amount of activity and 25 percent of U.S. adults are not active at all. There’s no doubt we live in the land of plenty! Unfortunately, we are not getting plenty of exercise and each year millions of Americans suffer from illnesses that can be prevented or improved through regular physical activity. Currently, over 50 million American’s have high blood pressure and another 60 million people (a third of the population) are overweight.
