Annie Oakley was an
expert marksman and performer. She was born in 1860 and lived
until 1926. Born Phoebe Anne Oakley Mosee in a frontier log cabin in
Darke County, Ohio, as a young woman she was
one of the best-known professional
game hunters in the country. She became even more renown for
performing with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show
from 1885 to 1902. A sensation in both
America and Europe because of her uncanny accuracy with a rifle, she is
the model for the protagonist in the musical Annie Get Your Gun
written in 1946 by Irving Berlin. With her ability and dexterity in
handling heavy gauge shotguns, she would have
had huge biceps, perfect for holding
an opponent in a headlock probably until he passed out. She had the
strength of a powerlifter and if she had trained
could have benched over 400 lbs. I
think she would been a great military sniper, taking out her adversary
on the first shot!
