Calamity Jane,
whose real name was Martha Jane Canary was born around 1852 and
died in 1903. An American frontier woman born in Princeton, Missouri,
Calamity grew up in the mining towns of the
West, where she became well known as
a sharpshooter and horsewoman, acquiring a reputation for contempt
of convention. Calamity made the claim
that she was the equal of any man and
dressed in male attire while proving it! By her own account she served
as a scout with the U.S. Cavalry and rode
for the Pony Express between Custer,
Montana, and Deadwood, South Dakota. She also performed in a Wild
West Show, a popular form of entertainment
that simulated exploits on the frontier
that toured the West.
The origin of her nickname is said to be her
threats of the calamity that would befall
any man who offended her. Calamity
Jane had all the makings of a very controlling and frightening dominatrix.
She could have put fear into the heart of her submissives with just
a look! Picture her in full leather with a heavy bullwhip in one
gloved hand and studded paddle in the other,
trading in her spurs for stilettos!
If she were alive today, she probably would have owned The Hellfire
Club in downtown Manhattan. Since she was so competitive, she would
have made an awesome brawler, fighting both women and men. I'm sure
she could throw a good punch, knocking out
her opponent before he knew what
hit him. Priding herself on being undefeated
in anything she tried, she had all
the makings of a top ranked heavy weight class bodybuilder!
