Fans of Cindy Phillips, the Canadian IFBB pro bodybuilder who was one of the youngest ever to achieve pro status, will have to wait till next year to see her make her pro debut. Cindy posted on her blog that due to an injury she has pulled out of shows this year, but plans to take the stage in 2009. She had planned to do both the Europa and Atlantic City pro shows this year after winning her pro card in 2007.

Having the unique position of being born on Halloween, in addition to her bodybuilding career Cindy is a student majoring in criminology. The immensely popular bodybuilder showcases not only a stellar physique, but possesses major sex appeal that crosses many boundaries. Good luck to Cindy with her injury.

The IFBB Europa Super Show was held on Aug 15 -16th in Texas. With over 50 females competing, the show showcased IFBB pros from all over the world.

Veteran competitor Tracey Greenwood won the fitness division, with Bernadette Galvin taking top honors in the figure class. Jennifer Sedia won the lightweight female bodybuilding class, with Sherry Smith winning the heavyweight class.

Shemuscle.com model Marcy Porter placed a very credible 10th out of the field of 38 figure competitors, with fellow shemuscle model Shannon Meteraud who made a last minute decision due to injury to compete in figure instead of fitness, and then barely missing an Olympia qualification in 4th place.  

One of the biggest female bodybuilders on the scene – Jana Linke-Sippl, who competes at close to 190lbs, came in 5th.

Since I’ve started blogging on, this site, I thought I would see what people thought on female sports stars. While at work last night I asked the guy sitting next to me what he thought of female weight lifters. He came back with such a charming response… “Why do I want to watch some chick, with muscles in all the wrong places lifting stuff. It’s a mans sport.” This coming from the man who was having trouble opening his own drinks bottle. Yes, he’s entitled to his opinion, but his head was so far up his own spincter that he can’t help it if he’s a bit narrow-minded.

 The answer I was looking for, came from a guy who was sitting near us, on another table who had been listening in on the conversation. While seeming quite disgusted with the person next to me, he said, “I think it’s actually pretty sexy. A woman who wants to look after her body, and who can take care of herself, what’s wrong with that? Some women do go a bit overboard, but it’s nice to see a woman with a bit of meat on her, who you’re not worried you might break. Nothing sexier in my eyes.”

 This was what I had been thinking. It’s nice that there are women in this world who aren’t striving to be a size 0 model, and who are looking to be something more than that. It’s great that women are getting involved in what was considered a man’s world. It’s a bit some men are feeling a bit insecure and immasculated by this but that’s their issue to work through, because sporty women are sexy, strong and here to stay.

 Maybe I should carry my fiance over the threshold and see what he thinks…

‘Hooked: Muscle Women’ is a documentary produced by MSNBC, which says the program ”puts female bodybuilders on the psychiatrist’s couch (figuratively speaking) to get to the core of why they push their bodies to the limit.”
