Bodybuilding selected for the 15th Asian Games
By Rob Wilkins
Special Assistant to the IFBB

"Advocate of fair play in sports and a strong believe that sports carries the message of global peace and is a means of co-existence, harmony and prosperity."
-- HH Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah
President, Olympic of Asia

Under the dynamic leadership of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah, the IFBB is proud to announce that the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has selected the sport of bodybuilding as a part of the 15th Asian Games to be held in Doha, Qatar, 1 - 15 December, 2006. Officially founded on December 5, 1982 in New Delhi, India, the OCA is the governing body of all sports in Asia and is charged with supervising and encouraging sport at the highest competitive levels.

Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah is the Founder and President of the Olympic Council of Asia
. He is also a Member of International Olympic Committee, President of the National Olympic Committee of Kuwait, and the Vice-President of the Association of National Olympic Committees. "38 sports have been tentatively chosen for competitions during the Games and I have great pleasure in informing you that bodybuilding is one of the selected disciplines," said Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah

"I am thrilled that the Olympic Council of Asia has selected bodybuilding to participate in the 2006 Asian Games," commented Ben Weider, President of the IFBB. "This is a major step forward for the entire sport of bodybuilding especially since bodybuilding is widely practiced and enormously popular throughout Asia. Bodybuilding now plays an important role in all of the regional games that are organized by the International Olympic Committee. These are the Pan American Games, Central American Games, South American Games, The World Games, the Mini Olympics, the South East Asia Games, and now the Asian Games," said Weider.

The IFBB could not have a better representative of the sport than Paul Chua, D.S.M., IFBB Vice President for Asia. A true sport diplomat, Chua was very instrumental in answering all the questions the Olympic Council of Asia had regarding bodybuilding and will provide his expertise and technical support to ensure the bodybuilding portion of the Asian Games runs smoothly and in a professional manner. Chua has played a significant role in the successful development of bodybuilding and fitness throughout Asia and the world.

All IFBB bodybuilding championships are drug tested and this "get tough" stance is aimed at reducing the number of positive samples in compliance with the IFBB's "zero-tolerance" policy on doping.

The 14th Asian Games will be held at Busan, South Korea, from September 29 to October 14 2002. For more information on the Olympic Council of Asia or the 2002 Asian Games visit their web site at www.ocasia.org.
